In-Between World 2006 onwards

“I’ve been to this dream place before.  Top of a hill.  A town very high up in the mountains.  I take the little carriage that goes up but there are no seatbelts.  The ride is very steep.  I try to look away from the height and look forward.  I know that I am dreaming as it’s absurdly high and the journey is just too strange to be real, but there is disbelief in one part of me and I continue up the hill with fear. The ride is long and slow, at one point I am hanging off the carriage with one hand thinking – should I let go?”

Beginning in 2006, In-Between World is the focal point for my study of my masters at Camberwell College of Arts. The work consists of a website which reflects my dream journey and an installation where people can lie and listen to the sounds of my dreams.

Website

By using hyperlinks that connect only within the site, the idea is to lose the user within my dream world. Frustrated or encouraged, the user creates their own journey experiencing the disjointed nature of the dream and obtaining information from random images and text.

Installation

With comfortable seating and a sound pillow, the participant lies back and listens to the sound of my dreams.  The sound pillow is connected to an iPod player which plays a track approximately 12 minutes long, taking the participant into my dreamscape.  The idea was to transport people to my dream world and let the visualisation take place in their own minds – their in-between world.
